“We’re very happy and want to thank Sunway for helping us,” said Muhd Nazrain Haziq.
Muhd Adam Harris said with the new items, they were inspired to study hard and aimed to be at the top of their class.

It was also heartwarming to see a pupil breaking into a huge grin, proudly showing his father his orange school bag after successfully asking a Sunway volunteer if he could have it in a different colour.
These children were among the 850 students of SK Bandar Sunway and SMK Bandar Sunway who received school supplies under the Sunway “Back to School” programme, held at the secondary school.
Each student received a school bag, a school uniform, a pair of school shoes, a water bottle and track bottoms for sports activities.
Sunway contributed school supplies worth RM215,000, with the intention to relieve parents’ financial burden through the programme.
“We are very thankful for the continuous support from Sunway Group in our effort to create a conducive learning environment for our students.

“We hope this will boost the students’ confidence, improve attendance and allow them to reach their full potential in various activities without worrying about the lack of proper equipment,” said SMK Bandar Sunway principal Haniza Mohd Jabar @ Ibrahim.
In her speech, SK Bandar Sunway headmistress Ruslina Mohd Yunus reminded the pupils to study hard and do well in school.
Also present at the event were Sunway Group Brand Marketing and Communications senior general manager Jane Poh, Brand Marketing and Communications CSR and Events assistant general manager Bernard Paul and SMK Bandar Sunway Parent-Teacher Association vice-chairman Kasuma Satria Mat Jadi.
The “Back-to-School” programme is part of Sunway’s pledge to #SunwayForGood, which underscores the group’s sustainability and social responsibility efforts to create a positive impact on the nation.

“We wanted to further Sunway’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which is to emphasise quality education.
“As Sunway transforms into a Smart Sustainable City, it’s important that we continue to foster sustainable communities where Sunway is present, and giving back to society through education is deeply embedded in our DNA here at Sunway.
“So when we did our due diligence, we found that 850 children who are below the poverty line required these school supplies. This is where we came in a big way to help them,” said Paul.
He added that it was great to see the faces of parents and their children lighting up upon receiving the school essentials.
“We look forward to working with parents, teachers and school administrators to continuously improve the well-being of students and elevate the standards of education towards education equity in Malaysia,” he commented.

Sunway’s relationship with the two schools began in 1995 when the corporation adopted SMK Bandar Sunway to help rebuild it after being abandoned by the previous contractor.
It subsequently adopted SK Bandar Sunway and continued making further contributions to both schools for paint, repair and refurbishment works to improve the learning environment for thousands of children.
Over the years, Sunway’s collective contribution to the schools amounted to more than RM4mil.
Sunway has also worked with the secondary school’s special needs students and non-profit organisation Generating Opportunities for the Learning Disabled (Gold), which aids children with learning disabilities through job training sessions and placement programmes.
Through the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, Sunway has also pledged RM100,000 to develop an ongoing social enterprise business model to equip the learning disabled with skills that will sustain them through life.
